How Alpha Coach works
Where its numbers come from, what it will not do, and why it cannot invent a figure.
Alpha Coach is a chat that can query your own journal.
Where the numbers come from
The coach has no numbers of its own. When you ask a question it calls tools — the same metric functions that render your dashboard — and answers from what they return. If it says you lost $669 between 16:00 and 17:00 UTC, you can click through to those fourteen trades.
This is why it cannot invent a figure: there is nowhere for an invented figure to come from.
What it can look at
- Performance: P&L, win rate, profit factor, expectancy, drawdown, health score
- Breakdowns by symbol, setup, tag, session, weekday and hour
- Detected mistakes with their attributable cost
- Execution quality: MAE, MFE, profit capture, early exits, holding-time skew
- Psychology: plan compliance, tilt after losses, performance by emotion
- Individual trades, and what-if scenarios
What it will not do
It will not predict the market, recommend an instrument, or tell you where to buy or sell. It analyses what you have already done. It is educational analysis of your own data, not financial advice.
With and without an API key
With ANTHROPIC_API_KEY set, the coach is Claude with tool access to your journal. Without it, a local analyst runs the same tools and composes the answer from their output — identical numbers, more templated prose. That is deliberate: a demo that invented figures would teach people to distrust the real thing.
